Spring at last?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Just as we thought that Spring was at last here we are now forecast a sharp frost tonight. Hopefully this will be the last of the season and we can now look ahead to a lovely summer. We certainly deserve one after the sharp winter!  It has been a long time since we had proper snow and at least it gave me the opportunity to get out and take some stunning photos of the farm deep in snow.

Our Guinea Fowl are settling in nicely, getting used to their new home and we are looking forward to trying Guinea fowl eggs when they soon start laying.

Next month we have some exciting developments at Broadgate Farm – we are putting in a new Ground Source Heat Pump system that will provide heat and hot water to all of our cottages. We don’t claim to be super green but we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint where we can.

International month?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

September at Broadgate Farm Cottages is turning into our International month – we have a two week booking for a family from Holland and now a one week booking  from the USA!

We look forward to welcoming our overseas visitors!

New additions to Broadgate Farm

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

We have just been offered 6 guinea fowl to join us here at Broadgate Farm, they have been on our list for quite some time and a friend has decided they are fed up with them wreaking their lawn. No such problems here – plenty of woodland for them.

As soon as I can I will add their pictures to the Animals section of the website. We are collecting them Friday night.

Hello there!

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Hello – this is our first post on the new Broadgate Farm blog. The weather today is lovely we have had cold frosty nights followed by lovely sunny days.

The snowdrops and crocus have been out for some time and we are starting to plant all our seeds for the vegetable garden. It is still too cold to use the greenhouse for the seedlings so the house is cluttered with seed trays – still it will be worth it once we have our own vegetables! We did very well last season but at the moment all I have left is onions, garlic, parsnips and potatoes everything else has been polished off!

Hello world!
